Brake wear speeds up in heavy traffic. Here's a realistic interval for Dubai driving, plus the warning signs to watch for.
Brake pads wear based on driving style and traffic more than mileage alone, and Dubai's stop-and-go peak-hour traffic wears them faster than the manufacturer's general guidance assumes.
A Realistic Interval
As a rough guide, have pads checked every 15,000–20,000 km, and discs inspected alongside them. If most of your driving is heavy city traffic, check closer to the lower end of that range.
Signs You Shouldn't Wait For a Scheduled Check
- A high-pitched squeal when braking, which is often a built-in wear indicator
- Grinding, which usually means the pad is worn through to metal
- The car pulling to one side under braking
- A soft or spongy brake pedal
- Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel when braking
Brakes aren't a part to defer on. A pad replacement caught early is straightforward; ignored long enough, it becomes a disc and calliper job as well.
